Maintenance Technician- Park District Full-Time

$35,600 - $43,670 Annually

Under the supervision of a Maintenance District Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for learning and performing the various skills that are associated with accepted maintenance practices for developed parks.

Essential Duties
• Performs all cultural maintenance practices inherent to maintaining irrigated turf grass parks including mowing and trimming, aeration, fertilization, irrigation and renovations.
• Performs trash and recyclables removal operations. Cleans and clears park grounds and facilities of litter and debris, operation of a trash / recyclables removal truck, common hand tools, installation and removal of waste receptacles and dog waste station maintenance.
• Maintains public shelter facilities including roof repair, picnic table repair, trash receptacle repair, stocking of supplies, painting, staining, restroom cleaning, sanitizing, grill maintenance.
• Be familiar with irrigation systems and be able to make minor system repairs.
• Assists with the Inspection of all parks' irrigation systems and drinking fountains on a weekly basis and assists with skilled maintenance including irrigation repairs to mainlines, valves, laterals, heads and pumps.
• Performs drinking fountain repairs to cartridges and piping.
• Assists staff with District sponsored events, making deliveries of materials and supplies necessary to meet the requests of facility rentals and work orders. This position requires the setting up and disassembly of event tents, tables, picnic benches and chairs.
• Assists with the documentation and routine inspection and repairs to play equipment within the district playgrounds.
• Performs minor maintenance and repairs on equipment.
• Ensure proper care of assigned tools and equipment, perform maintenance on small equipment and notify appropriate personnel of need for tool, equipment or vehicle maintenance service or repairs.
• Completes time card, daily activity reports, and other reports and records as required. This position requires attendance and involvement in meetings on project progress, safety, park maintenance practices, procedural changes and other topics related to the operations of the District.
• Perform snow and ice removal using plow trucks, blowers, shovels, ice scrappers, de-icing salt, etc.
• Provide, to everyone encountered during the work day, excellent customer service and respect.
• Regularly drives a District vehicle during the course of daily work. Also drives a personal vehicle to additional District facilities for meetings, training, and other business purposes.
• While on duty or on snow watch, carry a charged and functional District-issued cell phone, which is expected to be answered or messages returned, in a timely manner or when it is safe to do so, (i.e. not while driving, etc.)
• Perform other duties and special assignments as required by manager/supervisor, including assignments that may be outside the primary area of responsibility or that may be assigned by the Department Director or the District's Executive Director.
• Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely fashion to inquiries and problems in person, by email, phone and mail providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
• Exercise good judgement and practice proper safety precautions at all times.
• Comply with District and Departmental vision, mission, rules, regulations, safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
• May serve as an Emergency Services Worker.

Minimum Qualifications
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year skilled labor experience that is inherent to park or related grounds maintenance strongly preferred but not required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Work Hours:
Forty (40) hour work week, Monday through Friday. Hours are typically 7am to 3:30pm daily; however, work hours may vary seasonally or as needed to complete work. May be required to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and be on snow watch as well as work shifts deviating from this position's normal work days and/or with other work groups..
