Accountant I - Cash Receipts

(Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Salary: $43,600 - $52,440 per year

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, this position is responsible for processing and distribution of all District cash reports and accounts receivable. This position is also responsible for performing a combination of routine data entry, calculating, posting, verifying data, as wll as conducting internal audits. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to District’s transactions. Responsible for the integrity of cash receipts and accounts receivable

Essential Duties:

  • Audits daily bank bags received from all facilities by matching bank receipts to facility cash reports. Investigates any material discrepancies.
  • Verifies accuracy of data entry input of cash receipts using batch proof reports.
  • Distributes the batches to the general ledger. Balances the cash receipts monthly to the batch summary sheet and the general ledger.
  • Processing of deposits for all cash receipts received by the Accounting Department.
  • Processes invoice request forms including printing, and distributing the general ledger.
  • Runs report for accounts receivable aging monthly to analyze collections. At year-end, reconciles the accounts receivable to monthly reports and the general ledger.
  • Processes NSF notifications from the bank for collection and balance to the general ledger.
  • Performs District's internal auditing as directed
  • Assists with the processing of payroll and accounts payable as needed
  • Verifies documents, performs data entry, proofing, data corrections, as well as other accounting and general office duties
  • Effectively handles a variety of customer situations and is responsible for maintaining excellent customer and employee relations. Responds promptly to customer inquiries, handles and resolves customer complaints in an appropriate manner.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Accounting or Finance.
  • A combination of experience and education may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Any related accounting certification is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or have the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of accounting or bookkeeping, Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of Special Districts and local municipalities.
  • Must have solid organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail a must.
  • Skills in data management and report development.
  • The ability to successfully analyze data, meet deadlines and provide professional documents and complex reports under tight deadlines.

Material and Equipment Used :

To successfully perform the required job duties, this position regularly uses a desktop computer, 10-key calculator, a phone, printer, phot copier, fax and other common office equipment. This position is required to drive a motor vehicle to various off site facilities.

Working Environment :

Primarily works in a comfortable office environment subject to interruptions and background noise.

Physical Requirements :

Stand, walk, sit for an extended period of time, handle and operate objects and office equipment, reach outward and above shoulder and carry, pull, push or lift up to 25 lbs. May occasionally climb, crawl, squat, kneel and lift up to 50 lbs. The employee must be able to see close up and at a distance with vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.
