Scorekeeper Soccer Part-Time

$13.00 - $16.80 per hour

Indoor at South Suburban Sports Complex working hours are between Monday to Friday and 4pm to midnight.

Position Summary:

Under the close supervision of the Recreation Coordinator(s), this position is responsible for acting as the representative for the District at indoor soccer events. Scorekeepers are ultimately responsible for the participants, the field/court and the equipment.

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure safety of all participants, maintain discipline & assist in handling concerns with players and/or spectators.
  • Ensure guidelines, rules and sportsmanship are enforced.
  • Assist umpires with conflict resolution, injured participants, and filling out appropriate paperwork.
  • Effectively communicate with teams, coaches and crowd.
  • Prepare and distribute information relative to program to participants.
  • Prepare and distribute equipment and/or materials to all field/court locations. Inspect playing areas for safety concerns.
  • Assist Recreation Coordinator in decision making and communication of cancellations due to weather.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the rules and mechanics of soccer.
    • Open and close facility as necessary following proper procedures. Ensure that building is empty and secured when closing at night.
    • Responsible for turning on and off ball field lights and scoreboard for games.
    • Assist in emergency situations such as evacuations, medical emergencies, suspicious behavior or activity, etc. Correct or inform Recreation Coordinator of any facility hazards.
    • Substitute as an umpire or referee as needed.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment (i.e. programs, rentals, etc.); resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Maintains related records and statistics for programs and participants involved in sponsored activities. Completes daily reports.
  • Communicate issues/complaints to Recreation Coordinator as needed. Complete daily reports to communicate with supervisor on accidents/injuries, issues, etc.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; subs for co-workers when available; is responsible for securing substitutes for shifts unable to work.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Youth Athletics: Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
  • Adult Athletics: Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • General knowledge of soccer including rules and regulations preferred.
  • Previous site supervisory experience preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Current certifications in AED/CPR/First Aid or the ability to obtain such certifications within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment. Must be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment. Occasional use of personal and District Vehicles.
  • Concussion recognition training is required and must be renewed annually (Youth Outdoor/Indoor Leagues only).

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and general office equipment (computer, copier, fax, etc.).
  • Knowledge of basic concepts and league rules and regulations of soccer.
  • Knowledge of effective safety standards and precautions related to specific recreational programs.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally; establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public; work independently or with another official on assigned games; able to effectively communicate and enforce league rules; effectively demonstrate and promote enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
  • Requires the ability to communicate verbally with both children and adults.

 

Material and Equipment Used :

Whistle, timer/stopwatch, penalty flag, indicator, scoreboard, uniform, and other resources as needed.

 

Working Environment :

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Must be able to work in an environment with various temperatures, poor acoustics and an array of distractions, i.e. music. When working outdoors, possible exposure to extreme temperatures, sun, rain, snow, wind, humid or icy conditions and frequent exposure.

to grasses, molds, fertilizers, dust and pesticides. Moderate mental effort is required. Daily moderate mental pressure exists due to exposure to interpersonal conflicts.

 

Physical Requirements :

Must be able to push, pull or balance. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include: identify objects at 20 feet or more, with or without corrective lenses, near acuity, far acuity, depth perception and color vision. Hearing must be adequate to hear patrons/co-workers communications up to 25 yards away. Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, exhibit manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone, e-mail, and through face-to-face communication is needed.
