1st Assistant Supervisor Golf Maintenance

Location: Littleton Golf & Tennis Club

(Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Salary: $52,307 - $62,788 per year

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, this position is responsible for directing and participating in the daily maintenance of golf course greens, tees, fairways, roughs and water systems; assists in, and/or directs, construction and/or renovation of greens, tees, bunkers and fairways; and is responsible for work reports, logs, and records as needed.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in planning, directing, and implementing the maintenance of golf course tees, greens, fairways, roughs and water systems.
  • Assists in hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating personnel; assists with providing or coordinating staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Performs daily, weekly and yearly planning for maintenance of golf course.
  • Instructs equipment operators in the safe operation and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumping stations, as well as the maintenance and operation of the irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Coordinates repair and maintenance programs.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints, as well as operating and maintenance problems.
  • Prepares work and equipment reports, and maintains records and schedules as required.
  • Applies fertilizers, amendments, and chemicals, and maintains records as required.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attends work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of a two-year college degree in Turf Grass Management or a related field.
  • Five (5) years experience in the field of golf course maintenance.
  • Experience with the maintenance and construction of golf course greens, tees and fairways; the preparation, operation and maintenance of an irrigation system, including pumping stations and controls.
  • Experience with, drainage control methods.
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of golf course equipment and the materials and supplies used in golf course maintenance.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Valid Pesticide Application License in the turf and ornamental category.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of how to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.
  • Knowledge of management and maintenance of greens, fairways and roughs.
  • Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products.
  • Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Ability to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage patterns, construct tees and/or greens.
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service and get along with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors and interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner.

Material and Equipment Used :

To successfully perform the required job duties, this position regularly uses golf carts, mowers, diesel electric and gasoline powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, tractors, edgers, trimmers, shovels, rakes, hand-held power tolls, irrigation systems, and other mechanical equipment, custodial cleaning supplies, telephone, computer, and other common office equipment. May also drive a District vehicle and/or a personal vehicle for business purposes.

Working Environment :

The employee in position is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Requirements :

Stand, walk, handle and operate objects and office equipment, reach outward and above shoulder and carry, pull, push or lift up to 50 lbs. May occasionally need to climb, crawl, squat, and kneel, On a rare occasion will lift up to 50 lbs. or more. The employee must be able to see close up and at a distance with vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.
