Volunteer, Junior Counselors

Did you know volunteering is a great way to explore interests, meet new people and to do something good for your community at the same time? If you answered YES, this is the opportunity for you! The Jr. Camp Counselors assist with the District’s licensed summer camp programs from May through August. The Jr. Camp Counselors work with children in grades Kindergarten - 6th and assist instructors while leading a variety of sports and arts activities, as well as attending outdoor pool days and field trips. The program is held Mondays - Fridays from 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be thirteen (13) to fifteen (15) years of age.
  • Must attend a five (5) day in-person training, May 22 – 26, 2023 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm.
  • Has a desire to work with school-aged children and their guardians.
  • Has the ability to follow instruction from District staff.
  • Has the ability to follow workplace safety procedures.
  • Has the ability to be self-directed and provide excellent customer service to all participants.
  • Has the ability to learn and demonstrate various activities and assist in keeping children engaged.
  • Must be dependable and patient with children.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience with children and larger groups is helpful but not required. For example: babysitting, assisting with younger siblings or cousins, helping children in younger school grades than yourself, previous Scout Troup leadership, church group activities, etc.
  • Ability to commit to a minimum of 1 day each week (maximum of 3 days a week) preferred.
  • Interested in a variety of sports and arts activities.

We serve residents in Bow Mar, Columbine Valley, Centennial west of I-25, Littleton, Lone Tree and Sheridan and unincorporated portions of Douglas, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties. We operate four full-service recreation centers, golf courses, outdoor pools and restaurants, two ice centers and miniature golf courses, a botanical garden event center, a BMX track, a sports dome, batting cages, an entertainment center, a hotel and a nature center. In addition, we maintain nearly 3,800 acres of developed and open space land, including 119 multi-purpose athletic fields, more than 100 parks, nearly 80 miles of trails, 60 playgrounds, 56 tennis courts, and the 880-acre South Platte Park.
