Accounting Technician

Hiring Range is $45,190 to $51,995 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Senior Accountant, this position’s main responsibility is in processing and distribution of all District cash reports and Accounts Receivable. This position is also responsible for performing a combination of routine data entry, calculating, posting, and verifying data. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to District transactions. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Essential Duties:

  • Audits daily bank bags received from all facilities by matching bank receipts to facility cash reports
  • Verifies accuracy of data entry input of cash receipts using batch proof reports. Distributes the batches to the general ledger.
  • Processes deposits for all cash receipts received by the Accounting Department.
  • Creates invoices from request forms, distributes to vendors, and posts to the general ledger.
  • Enters, updates, and proofs new/changes to part time staff in the payroll system.
  • Assists with accounts payable as needed.
  • Verifies documents, performs data entry, proofing, data corrections, as well as other accounting and general office duties.
  • Assists the Accounting department with audits and other special projects as needed.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with others including District employees, vendors, and service providers.
  • Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone, and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attends work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in bookkeeping, technical accounting, or a closely related field.
  • Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of the fundamentals of accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Ability to successfully understand financial data and accurately perform mathematical computations.
  • Must have solid organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
  • The ability to successfully analyze data, meet deadlines and provide professional documents and reports under tight deadlines.
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service, establish and maintain effective relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Material and Equipment Used :

  • Regularly uses a phone, computer, printer, 10-key calculator, and other common office equipment.
  • This position may be required to drive a personal and/or District motor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities.

Working Environment :

  • Primarily works in a busy, comfortable office environment subject to interruptions and background noises.

Physical Requirements :

  • Extended periods spent standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Occasional physical work lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • May occasionally climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment.
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Vision acuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision.
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effective communication. Must understand and be understood.
