Family Services Intern

(Part Time, Non-Exempt)

This position will be expected to work flexible part-time hours beginning April 6, 2026 ($17.50 pay rate) and increase to full-time ($18.75 pay rate) May 15, 2026 through August 12, 2026.

Position Summary:

Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study. The Intern reports to a designated supervisor in assigned Department.

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure the program complies with the Colorado Department of Human Services, Colorado State Licensing, County Health Department, District Guidelines, and any other regulations or licensing standards that apply.
  • Prepares and/or implements lesson plans/activities and calendars, plans both long- and short-range activities in accordance with objectives, developmentally appropriate program philosophy.
  • Fiscally accountability for the site by familiarizing self with all aspects of the site budget to ensure that all resources are managed effectively and within budgetary constraints; collects and records payments and outstanding balances, prepares reports and monitors revenues and expenses monthly.
  • Maintain appropriate staff supervision; by keeping proper staff ratios, preparing staff schedules, reviewing staff time sheets, assisting with the hiring, training and evaluating all program personnel.
  • Ensure program rooms and play areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition by inspecting and maintaining materials and equipment.
  • Develop and actively maintain positive communication with parents, children, and staff. Provide information to parents concerning their children’s development, abilities, and areas of concern; explains program procedures and classroom activities and serves as a program liaison. Recognize concerns, evaluate courses of action and respond professionally.
  • Use positive behavior reinforcement and developmentally appropriate guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior, inform supervisor if assistance is needed with behavior management, and provide documentation of inappropriate behavior.
  • Assists in distributing, completing, and updating all paperwork necessary to conduct the Day Camp Program, including emergency forms, weekly attendance rosters, payments for childcare and revenue receipts. Collect forms and information from parents/guardians as required by the program; maintain confidentiality of child and parent information.
  • Maintains a positive program image on-site and on field trips.
  • Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly. Completes Accident/Incident report.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, training, and site events as requested.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; subs for co-workers when available; is responsible for securing substitutes for shifts unable to work.
  • Report incidents of suspected child abuse to proper authorities.
  • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed.
  • Assist the Camp Coordinators with Battle of the Camps, STEM Activities, and Log binders, weekly calendars, summer staff training, evaluation, and scheduling.
  • Assist the Manager with preparing the Family Sports Center for Adventure Day Camp.
  • Ensure all first aid supplies, licensing documentation including Director Binders and Parent Boards are updated, and general camp needs.
  • Support Camp Coordinators with camper enrollment and filing all camp files.
  • Help with Bi-Weekly Staff Blast and Summer Staff Appreciation.
  • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Currently in pursuit of bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Elementary Education, Human Services or directly related field preferred. OR
  • Two years of college coursework and (6) six months of experience in the care and supervision of four (4) of more children. OR
  • Three (3) years of full-time experience working in a similar setting with school-age children.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Must meet appropriate Director requirements/qualifications and provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado’s Department of Human Services upon hire.
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Standard Precautions and Medication Administration or the ability to obtain such certifications upon hire.
  • Complete fifteen (15) hours of training annually.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check including Colorado Bureau of Investigations and TRAILS/Central Registry criminal record review as required by the Colorado Department of Social Services within five (5) working days of employment.
  • Provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado Child Care Licensing Division upon hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment. Must be insurable by the district carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Must be able to prioritize and multitask.

Material and Equipment Used :

This position may regularly operate a multi-line telephone system, general office equipment, and photocopy equipment. May be required to safely operate a vehicle.


Working Environment :

This position primarily works in a busy office and/or recreation environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and have high attention to detail and accuracy. The work environment will vary depending on Department/Division. Positions located in an Ice Arena will result in a cooler temperature than a typical office environment. This position may work indoors or outdoors subject to a variety of weather and landscapes.

Physical Requirements :

Stand, walk, sit for extended periods, handle and operate objects and office equipment, reach outward and above shoulder and carry, pull, push or lift up to 20 lbs. Must be able to see close up and at a distance with vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. Must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.
