Esports Instructor

Part Time, Non-Exempt)

$17.05 to $21.70 per hour

Position Summary:

Under the close supervision of the Esports Coordinator, this position is responsible for daily preparation and instruction of indoor and outdoor camp and other Esports activities, maintaining an appropriate and safe recreational environment for the participants. This position will work directly with children and parents on a daily basis. May provide leadership and guidance to additional part-time staff including Aides.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for the care and safety of the participants; ensuring that children are in a safe environment at all times (supervises area effectively).
  • Uses program resources to plan and instruct developmentally appropriate activities and lessons for children; leads and engages in active and sedentary indoor and outdoor lessons, games and activities with the children, and serves as a role model participant.
  • Performs daily set-up and delivery of program by organizing activities, snacks, restroom routines, and play supervision; maintains a clean and orderly environment; safeguards program supplies and materials.
  • Ensures that appropriate equipment/supplies are available for scheduled activities at different locations throughout the district; transports program supplies if needed; sets up and takes down. Completes preventative maintenance by inspecting equipment on a regular basis.
  • Uses positive behavior reinforcement and developmentally appropriate guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior, informs supervisor if assistance is needed with behavior management, provides documentation of inappropriate behavior.
  • Develops and maintains a positive work relationship with program participants, parents of children, and staff.
  • Assists in distributing, completing, and updating all paperwork necessary to run the camp, including emergency contact information and weekly attendance rosters. Collect forms and information from parents/guardians as required by the program; maintain confidentiality of child and parent information.
  • Maintains a positive program image by being prepared, creative and energized.
  • Communicates with parents about children’s daily activities, informs parents of program activities, procedures and upcoming events, and serves as a program liaison.
  • Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly. Completes accident, incidents, and behavior reports.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, training, and site events as requested.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; subs for co-workers when available; is responsible for securing substitutes for shifts unable to work.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Esports programming and its application, safety and emergency first-aid procedures, and customer service principles.
  • Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Current certifications in AED/CPR and First Aid or the ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment (training provided by the District).

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with both children and adults.
  • Must have ability to visually and audibly supervise children in a variety of situations.
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to provide superior customer service.
  • Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities.
  • Must be knowledgeable of positive interaction techniques with children, students and their parents, and staff. Demonstrates use of these techniques in all interactions.
  • Must be able to work with students in a constructive and caring manner.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach patrons how to safely and properly use all supplies, tools and equipment in accordance with established studio guidelines
  • Knowledge of Minecraft gaming and ability to help children learn the game.
  • Proficient understanding of relevant video games for programming, including: Minecraft, Fortnite, and sports titles such as Madden, NBA2k, EA FC, and Rocket League.

Material and Equipment Used :

This position regularly uses a phone, computer, printer, and other common office equipment. Also regularly uses supplies and equipment required for specific course curriculum (e.g computer equipment and varying video game consoles).

Working Environment :

This position requires work in a variety of settings including working indoors and outdoors subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape. Regularly work with school age children in busy recreation facility environment subject to continuous interruptions and loud background noises. When working outdoors, possible exposure to extreme temperatures, sun, rain, wind, humid conditions and frequent exposure to grass, molds, fertilizers, dust and pesticides.

Physical Requirements :

Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend or kneel to communicate with children, engage in activities with children, and distribute supplies or materials. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is necessary. Must be able to push, pull or balance. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 30 pounds unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 75 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include near acuity, far acuity, depth perception and color vision. Requires sense of smell and touch. Must be able to demonstrate and perform techniques unique to varying art disciplines.
