Fleet Mechanic
(Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Hiring Range is $52,364 to $60,555 annually based on qualifications,
education and experience as it relates to the position.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Fleet Supervisor, this position is
responsible for performing preventive maintenance as well as major and
minor mechanical repairs on a variety of District vehicles and
equipment. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated
values of the organization.
Essential Duties:
- Performs daily preventive maintenance procedures on district
vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, and
inspection of vital components.
- Inspects, diagnoses, analyzes, and repairs worn or damaged
vehicles and equipment including all types of gasoline, diesel,
hydraulic, electric and battery powered vehicles and equipment.
- May perform some minor welding and fabrication repairs on district
vehicles and equipment (mig, tig, arc, acetylene torch).
- Performs minor body repair and spot painting on district vehicles
and equipment as required.
- Communicates with supervisor on purchasing needed parts, supplies
and materials necessary for repairing the fleet. May also share in
the pickup and delivery of parts and supplies.
- Maintains garage and shop in a neat manner, keeps all tools and
testing equipment clean and orderly.
- Keep warehouse inventory, parts, lubricants, tools, supplies and
related equipment in a clean and orderly condition at all times.
- Maintains, operates, and cares for assigned hand tools and
equipment including pickup truck, trailer, compressor, small
engines, etc. Maintains and routinely inventories parts and
materials used while performing maintenance duties.
- Exercises good judgment and proper safety precautions and
practices at all times.
- Maintains records and generates reports as directed, including but
not limited to daily timesheets and records of all maintenance
performed on fleet vehicles and equipment according to District
procedures in a timely manner.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with District
employees, vendors, and contractors.
- Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to
inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone, and mail by
providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District
policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or
stressful interactions.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
- Attends work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.
- May be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, as well
as work shifts deviating from this position’s normal workdays and/or
with other work groups.

Education and/or Experience:
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
- Associate's Degree in auto mechanics or a related field.
- One (1) year of experience in equipment/automotive repair or
agricultural tractor and turf mower maintenance and repair.
- Any combination of experience, training and education that
demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform
the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- ASE certification preferred.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class A or B with air brake and
passenger P-1 endorsements is preferred.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to
obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- General knowledge of the principals, practices, and techniques of
equipment and automotive maintenance and repair.
- General knowledge of workplace safety procedures and the ability
to exercise good judgement and practice proper safety precautions at
all times.
- Skill and ability to safely maintain, repair and operate the
following specialized tools, power equipment and vehicles: cars,
trucks (up to 54,000 GVW), commercial mowing equipment, tractors,
loaders/backhoes, skid steer loaders, Zambonis, power edgers,
blowers, hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment. Some
minor welding and fabricating (mig, tig, acetylene torch).
- Complete working and operational knowledge of all types of
vehicles, equipment, tractors, mowers and implements related to
maintaining parks and recreational facilities.
- Knowledge of electric and battery operated equipment.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle within the traffic laws
of the State of Colorado and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Problem solving skills to analyze problems and implement
appropriate corrective actions.
- Skilled in the operation of or ability to receive training on
various types of maintenance equipment.
- Ability to read and understand factory service manuals, various
schematics and instructional materials.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate
maintenance work.
- Ability to repair various types of mechanical equipment under
tight deadlines.
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize situations and goals
to maximize available resources.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word,
Excel, and Outlook.
- General knowledge in the use and general maintenance of hand,
power and motorized tools associated with equipment and automotive maintenance.
- Ability and willingness to comply with District and Departmental
vision, mission, rules, regulations, safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and special work requests.
- Ability to interact tactfully, clearly, concisely, and
appropriately with the public, District administration, co-workers,
and other agencies or contractors.
- Must be highly motivated and take direction well.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and
high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide
outstanding customer service, establish and maintain effective
working relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner.
- Communication skills to understand oral and written instructions
and to express facts, data, and ideas clearly and concisely both
orally and in writing.
Material and Equipment Used
:
- Uses standard office equipment including a personal computer,
phone, printer, and copier.
- Regularly uses vehicle diagnostic computers, basic hand and power
tools, forklift, tractors, specialty equipment, safety equipment,
and motor vehicles.
- This position may be required to drive a personal and/or District
motor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities for
business purposes.
Working Environment
:
- This position performs work in a variety of settings including
working indoors and outdoors, daytime and night-time including in
dark areas, subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and
landscape. Outdoor working environments can be wet, humid, and
extreme in temperature variations. May include exposure to dust and wildlife.
- This position has regular exposure to moving mechanical parts,
precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic
chemicals (including oils, solvents, chemical cleaners), risk of
electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work
environment is usually loud.
- This position also performs work in an office environment subject
to interruptions and background noises.
Physical Requirements
:
- Extended periods spent performing manual labor and standing,
walking, sitting.
- Required to use hands and fingers to manually manipulate, handle
or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to climb, squat, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch
or crawl, and lift up to 100 pounds.
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools, machinery,
personal computer and equipment.
- Foot/eye coordination required for operating motorized equipment.
- Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Vision
acuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjust
focus allowing a broad field of vision.
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effective
communication, and to receive and interpret warning signals. Must
understand and be understood.

About Us

We serve residents in Bow Mar, Columbine Valley, Centennial west of
I-25, Littleton, Lone Tree and Sheridan and unincorporated portions of
Douglas, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties. We operate four full-service
