Hiring Range is $52,364 to $60,555 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, the Aquatics Operations Coordinator serves as the primary operational leader for assigned indoor and/or outdoor aquatic facilities. The position is responsible for the safe, efficient, effective, and customer-focused operation of assigned facilities, including staff leadership and scheduling, customer service, facility operations, water quality, safety, equipment, maintenance coordination, programming support, special events, purchasing, and budget administration. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Essential Duties:

• Oversees assigned aquatic facilities and daily operations with a strong focus on safety, cleanliness, efficiency, facility readiness, and customer satisfaction.
• Recruits, hires, onboards, trains, schedules, supervises, coaches, and evaluates part-time aquatics staff; addresses performance concerns and supports employee engagement, retention, and development.
• Monitors staffing levels, coordinates coverage and schedule adjustments, reviews and approves biweekly timesheets, and works with Payroll to resolve pay issues.
• Provides operational direction and serves as a primary point of contact for staff questions, operational communication, and day-to-day facility needs.
• Conducts facility inspections and walk-throughs; identifies safety, maintenance, cleanliness, equipment, and operational needs; coordinates repairs and corrective action with Maintenance, custodial staff, vendors, and contractors.
• Coordinates facility opening, closing, seasonal start-up and shutdown procedures and responds to urgent operational needs before, during, and after regular operating hours.
• Oversees water quality and aquatic mechanical systems, including chemical levels and testing, chemical storage and handling, pumps, filtration, circulation, heating, chlorination, and related records and corrective actions.
• Maintains accurate equipment, chemical, supply, maintenance, incident, accident, and operational records and identifies equipment replacement, preventive maintenance, capital, and facility improvement needs.
• Coordinates aquatic programs, facility rentals, parties, special events, and community engagement activities in collaboration with appropriate District departments and partners.
• Assists with marketing and outreach for aquatic programs, facilities, events, and water safety initiatives in coordination with Communications staff.
• Provides leadership for customer service at assigned facilities; responds to customer inquiries, complaints, and escalated concerns; evaluates feedback and recommends improvements to the customer experience.
• Assists with preparation and monitoring of the Aquatics budget; tracks revenues and expenditures; prepares purchasing and financial documentation; manages assigned inventories; and makes recommendations regarding supplies, equipment, programs, and facility needs.
• Ensures monies are collected and handled according to District policy and maintains appropriate financial records.
• Ensures staff and facility operations follow District policies and applicable safety and regulatory requirements; participates in emergency drills, inspections, incident response, and compliance activities.
• Recognizes emergency and dangerous situations and reacts quickly and calmly; administers first aid and emergency care as required.
• Provides backup coverage for aquatic operations as needed, including functioning as a lifeguard, head lifeguard, or swim instructor.
• Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees, vendors, contractors, user groups, community organizations, and outside associations.
• Attends staff meetings, trainings, professional meetings, and orientations and remains current on trends and innovations in aquatic recreation, facility operations, safety, and customer service.
• Works collaboratively with other Aquatics staff and District departments to maintain consistent, high-quality aquatics operations and services throughout the District.
• Attends work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.
• May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and rotating on-call shifts.

Education and/or Experience:

• Associate's Degree in Recreation Program Management or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• One (1) year related Aquatics and Recreation service experience and customer service. Two (2) years’ experience preferred.
• Previous personnel leadership/supervision preferred.
• Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

• Certified Pool Operator (CPO)/Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certificates required upon hire.
• Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• General knowledge of the philosophies, objectives, practices, and systems of Aquatics, Recreation, and Facility operations management, and their application as related to aquatics facility operations.
• General knowledge of safety and emergency first aid procedures.
• General knowledge of customer service principles.
• General knowledge of establishing and maintaining healthy pool water; pump and filtration operations and chemical feeding equipment.
• General knowledge of the planning and organization of aquatics instruction and water safety programs.
• General knowledge of budget planning and management.
• Skills in swimming, lifeguarding and lifesaving procedures and instruction and water safety programs.
• Skills in recruiting, training, supervising, evaluating, motivating employees.
• Ability to successfully establish and maintain safe and fun pool environments.
• Ability to resolve customer complaints and escalated problems.
• Ability to effectively handle cash-flow and daily cash reports with accuracy and proper handling in adherence to established procedures.
• Ability to safely extricate people from a pool who vary in weight, with or without assistance, at any time.
• Ability to react effectively to all potential mental, physical, and stressful situations inherent to the duties of a First Responder;
• Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Must be able to supervise, coach and evaluate numerous staff on customer service, safety, conflict resolution and problem solving.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, Outlook and Publisher.
• Must be highly motivated and take direction well.
• Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner.
• Ability to work a varied schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Material and Equipment Used :

• Regularly uses standard office equipment including a personal computer, phone, printer, fax machine, and copier.
• Regularly uses a cash register, credit-card machine, and calculator.
• Also regularly uses and operates first-aid supplies and equipment, pump and filtration equipment, chemical feeding equipment, various pool chemicals, circulation and chlorination equipment, and simple hand-tools.
• This position may be required to drive a personal and/or District motor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities.

Working Environment :

• Primarily works in a busy pool facility environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. May regularly be in water. Pool facility environments can be loud, wet, humid, and have extreme temperature variations.
• May also work in a comfortable office subject to interruptions and background noises.
• Works outdoors subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape.

Physical Requirements :

• Stand, walk, swim, and sit for long periods of time.
• Occasional physical work lifting up to 75 pounds.
• Occasionally required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, squat, climb, crouch or crawl.
• Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment.
• Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Vision acuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. Must have 20/20 vision or 20/20 vision corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses.
• Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effective communication. Must be able to hear noises either naturally or with electronic auditory assistance equivalent to that of normal conversation up to 30 meters away. Must understand and be understood.
