Preschool Assistant Director (Licensed) Part-Time

$20.85 - $29.25 per hour

Position Summary:

Under the close supervision of the Family Services Coordinator and Family Services Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating the daily operation of early childhood education/preschool programs; enforcing regulations; implementing and maintaining an appropriate safe recreational and learning environment for the children; program lesson planning; work in conjunction with the Family Services Coordinator to provide supervision and training for part-time staff. This position will work directly with children and parents on a daily basis providing quality customer service.   

 

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure the program complies with the Colorado Department of Human Services, Colorado State Licensing, County Health Department, District Guidelines, and any other regulations or licensing standards that apply.
  • Develop curriculum; prepares and/or implements lesson plans, monthly calendars, and newsletters; plans both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
  • Fiscally accountability for the program by familiarizing self with all aspects of the site budget to ensure that all resources are managed effectively and within budgetary constraints, prepares reports and monitors revenues and expenses monthly.
  • Maintain appropriate staff supervision; by keeping proper staff ratios, preparing staff schedules, assisting with the hiring, training and evaluating of all program personnel.
  • Ensure program, rooms and play areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition by inspecting and maintaining materials and equipment.
  • Develop and actively maintain positive communication with parents, children, and staff. Provide information to parents concerning their children’s development, abilities, and areas of concern; explains program procedures and classroom activities, and serves as a program liaison. Recognize concerns, evaluate course of action and respond professionally.
  • Use positive behavior reinforcement and developmentally appropriate guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior, inform supervisor if assistance is needed with behavior management, and provide documentation of inappropriate behavior.
  • Answer telephone calls, relay appropriate information regarding programs, give tours of the site, and actively recruit new children to the program by generating marketing ideas.
  • Assist with developing and implementing marketing for specific area of responsibility; notifies the public of District events. Promote a positive image of the program to the public.
  • Complete and maintain children’s and staff files, reports, records, and other documents, and collect forms and information from parents/guardians as required by the program; maintain confidentiality of child and parent information.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and site events as requested. Share information gained in professional development classes or through research.
  • Report incidents of suspected child abuse to proper authorities.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Early Childhood Professional Credential 3.0 Level and provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado’s Department of Human Services upon hire. Level 3 preferred.
  • Two (2) years of early childhood teaching experience in the classroom.

 

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions or the ability to obtain such certifications upon hire. Adventure Camp requires wilderness First Aid certification.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check including Colorado Bureau of Investigations and TRAILS/Central Registry criminal record review as required by the Colorado Department of Social Services within five (5) working days of employment. 
  • Provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado Child Care Licensing Division upon hire. 

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with both children and adults. 
  • Must have ability to visually and audibly supervise children in a variety of situations. 
  • Ability to work productively without supervision within established organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provide superior customer service and resolve customer complaints and escalated problems.

 

Material and Equipment Used :

This position regularly uses a phone, computer, printer, fax and other common office equipment. Also regularly uses and operates first-aid supplies and equipment.

 

Working Environment :

This position requires work in a variety of settings including working indoors and outdoors subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape. Regularly works with preschool age children in busy recreation facility environment subject to continuous interruptions and loud background noises. When working outdoors, possible exposure to extreme temperatures, sun, rain, wind, humid conditions and frequent exposure to grasses, molds, fertilizers, dust and pesticides.

 

Physical Requirements :

Requires the ability to stand for various periods of time (15 – 60 minutes), bend or kneel to communicate with children, engage in activities with children, and distribute supplies or materials. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is necessary.  Must be able to push, pull or balance. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 30 pounds unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 75 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include: near acuity, far acuity, depth perception and color vision. Requires sense of smell and touch. 

 

The position requires a current medical report which verifies that the employee is free from evidence of emotional, mental, or physical illness and free from evidence of personal conduct detrimental to the health, safety, or wellbeing of children, self, or District personnel.
