Lead Maintenance Specialist Construction Department with general carpentry

(Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Hiring range is $44,304 to $50,936 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the the Construction Supervisor, this position performs skilled labor tasks including: maintenance, construction, general carpentry and concrete.

Essential Duties:

  • Reads general blueprints including plans of facilities and park design.
  • Supervision of assigned personnel or small construction crew as assigned.
  • Handles personal daily time sheets.
  • Cares and maintains assigned tools and equipment, including all stationary power tools and wood shop area.
  • Trains personnel in safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
  • Prepares work and equipment reports and maintains regular schedules and records.
  • Coordinates repair and maintenance on District facilities and parks.
  • Assists with the preparation and monitoring of the budget, manage revenues and expenditures and prepare financial reports. Prepare purchase orders, RFP’s, and invoice requests.
  • Performs and assists with various types of construction and repair projects including concrete, interior and exterior repair work, fencing, doors and windows, cabinet building and shelters.
  • Observe necessary precautions to assure general public safety; inspect facilities/grounds for safety and maintenance needs.
  • Purchases materials and supplies as needed. Completes monthly credit card sheets.
  • Must be available to work week nights and weekends as needed.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A combination equivalent to two (2) years of semi-skilled labor experience that is inherent to park or grounds maintenance and/or construction.
  • Must have experience with basic hand and power tools; light motorized vehicles, and equipment.
  • A combination of experience and education may be considered.

L icenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Any additional related certifications.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires knowledge of the principles and techniques of construction and the skill and ability to apply those principles and techniques to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of the position.
  • Thorough knowledge and skill of the use of tools and equipment including various construction materials, various concrete and carpentry equipment including hand and stationary tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to develop and present recommendations.
  • Requires the skill and ability to perform strenuous physical labor.
  • Ongoing demonstration of safe and efficient equipment operation required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and assess emergency building and equipment problems and respond in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize situations and goals to maximize available resources and problem solving skills in order to analyze complex problems and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ability to use mathematical reasoning is necessary to carry out the regulations and requirements.
  • Ability to utilize analytical skills and apply results.
  • Ability to use and apply technology.
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service and get along with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors and interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner

Material and Equipment Used :

This position regularly uses Various construction materials, power and hand carpentry tools, stationary power tools, pick-up, pick-up with trailer, dump truck and flat-bed trucks, concrete mixer, various tractors and attachments, paints, stains and sealers, and uses a computer and other basic office equipment. This position may need to drive a District vehicle and/or a personal vehicle for business purposes.

Working Environment :

Primarily works in the field subject to variable weather, ecosystems and landscape. Works in an office environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.

Physical Requirements :

Stand, walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward, reach above shoulders, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. May occasionally climb, crawl, squat, kneel, carry push, pull or lift objects 70 lbs. May be required to lift up to 100 lbs. assisted. Ability to hear vehicle and equipment horns, signals, and engine operation to determine proper operation. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions outdoors. Ability to tolerate and work with frequent exposure to dusts, poor ventilation, and mechanical hazards; occasional exposure to fumes, odors, mists, gases; occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations from equipment operation; and equipment noise. Alertness, precision, ingenuity, problem-solving, analytical ability, spatial perception, auditory and visual discrimination, tactile discrimination, speaking ability, memory, ability to concentrate, use good judgment and reasoning, develop creative solutions to problems, take initiative, patience. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively, must understand and be understood.
