Gymnastics Assistant
(Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Hiring Range is $40,352 to $43,000 annually based on
qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Gymnastics Coordinator, this position
will assist with gymnastics operations and general leadership in the
gymnastics program. Primary responsibilities include programming and
supervision of gymnastics birthday parties, assistance with
administrative tasks, as well as maintaining a regular schedule of
gymnastics class instruction. The Gymnastics assistant will complete
program reporting and assist with special projects. In the absence of
the Gymnastics Coordinator, the Gymnastics assistant will serve as
acting Gym Supervisor with a focus on safety and provide general
supervision of staff, participants and occasional volunteers.
Work Hours: The job requires schedule flexibility to ensure coverage
and is primarily responsible for instruction and gym supervision of
afternoon/ evening and Saturday classes and to provide leadership and
supervision for Sunday birthday parties. Typically will work 11am-7pm
on weekdays and Saturdays 8am-4pm. Additional day, evening, weekend
and/or holiday hours may be required.
Essential Duties:
- Administers gymnastics birthday party program, including staff
scheduling, general program planning and coordination, marketing
efforts and customer communication with a strong focus on safety,
customer satisfaction and staff productivity while maintaining high
levels of participation.
- Assists with gymnastics class program coordination and supervision
for all levels from parent-tot through pre-team and competitive
levels, drop-in gymnastics and gymnastics camps.
- Assists with hiring, training, directing, and inspecting work
performed by part time staff; assist in providing or coordinating
staff training; and assist employees to correct deficiencies. May
review and approve biweekly timecards.
- Determine staffing needs and creates schedules for birthday parties.
- Schedule and maintain birthday party reservations; collect and
track payments; confirm birthday party details 72 hours prior to
event and complete after party evaluation.
- Develop and implement in-house trainings for birthday party and
gymnastics staff, such as spotting clinics for new hires and regular
clinics for coaches as refresher throughout the year.
- Perform as a gymnastics instructor and/or party host, minimally 20
hours per week. Additional hours in this role may be required. Must
also be able to cover a variety of shifts to ensure adequate coverage.
- Assist with communication amongst staff and participants.
- Assist with lesson plans and program agendas for all levels.
- Maintain records and generate reports including, but not limited
to, attendance reports, program reports, payroll documentation,
incident/accident reports and personnel evaluations.
- Assist with development, implementation, and tracking of marketing
strategies to promote programs through a variety of methods;
notifying the public of District events.
- May be required to work special events as needed, including camps,
team meets and extracurricular activities and department special events.
- Enforce high program and risk management standards through
combination of staff training, adequate procedures and regular review.
- Regularly evaluate program offerings and modify as needed.
- Assist with a variety of District and community-wide special events.
- Work cooperatively with District staff to ensure a positive
customer and program experience. Including, but not limited to,
facility scheduling, maintenance, collaborative programs and
registration processes.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide
information within the area of assignment, resolve complaints in an
efficient and timely manner. Survey participants to determine
satisfaction and needs.
- Correct or inform supervisor of any facility hazards, communicate
issues/concerns to supervisor as needed.
- Attend facility, department and district meetings and trainings.
- Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis; sub for
instructors when available; is responsible for securing substitutes
for shifts unable to work.
- Establish and enforces class/program rules and policies for
patrons and staff.
- Responsible for purchasing, pricing, inventory and regular
reporting for pro-shop items and program supplies.
- Provide general program leadership in the absence of the
Gymnastics Coordinator.
- In conjunction with the Gymnastics Coordinator, monitor gymnastics
operations budget and keep within approved budget.
- Recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly
and calmly; administer first aid and contacts emergency personnel as
needed. Complete accident/Incident reports in a timely manner.

Education and/or Experience:
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age with a High School
diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of gymnastics coaching experience leading
recreational, pre-team and/or competitive level classes.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in a supervisory or lead capacity required.
- Preferred knowledge of CARA league gymnastics program.
- Combination of education and experience will be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- Must obtain CPR/AED certification within 30 days of employment,
and maintain certification thereafter.
- Must obtain HEADS UP Concussion certification within first 30 days
of employment, and maintain certification thereafter.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or the ability
to obtain upon hire. Must be insurable by the District carrier at
the onset and for the duration of employment
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Competent in a variety of gymnastics skills progressions and
spotting techniques at all levels of gymnastics including
competitive, as well as competent in the use of a variety of
gymnastics equipment.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally;
establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the
public of all ages.
- Ability to lead safe, fun and effective movement classes for young
children (toddler to school-aged), which includes playing games,
singing songs and giving direction to young children and their guardians.
- Ability to lead safe, fun and effective gymnastics classes for
youth from recreational level through competitive level.
- Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent
interpersonal and communication skills. Exceptional customer service
is an integral part of this organization and this position is
responsible for creating a culture that is welcoming and responsive
to all guests and staff.
- Ability to provide superior customer service and resolve customer
complaints and escalated problems, as well as emergency situations
in the absence of other leadership. Must possess strong problem
solving skills.
- Knowledge of emergency response and first-aid procedures.
- Ability to demonstrate teamwork, creativity, innovation and
leadership in performance of duties.
- Knowledge of recreational programming and gymnastics operations;
customer service principles; working with registration, point of
sale and facility scheduling software programs.
- Proficiency with applicable computer software applications (Word,
Excel, Outlook).
- Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and
operate a point-of-sale system.
- Must have the ability to perform multiple functions at once and
the ability to handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
- Must be willing to work a varied work schedule which may include
evenings, weekends and holidays.
Material and Equipment Used
:
Demonstrate proper safety knowledge and use of all gymnastics
equipment. Operate two way radios, audio equipment, and telephone.
Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and general office
equipment (computer, copier, fax, etc.). Use time keeping system and
registration software.
Working Environment
:
This position works primarily indoors. This includes a busy and often
loud gym and office environment subject to continuous interruptions.
This position may also be required to work outdoors subject to
variable weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscape.
Physical Requirements
:
Must be able to push, pull or balance. Requires spotting and
assisting patrons during the performance of gymnastic moves. Upper
body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 50 pounds
unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance.
Vision requirements include: near acuity, far acuity, depth perception
and color vision. Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb,
bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, exhibit manual dexterity and the
ability to handle objects. Requires the ability to communicate
verbally with both children and adults. The ability to talk and hear
via the telephone, e-mail, and through face-to-face communication is needed.
